5th August which was the date already set for her departure from

Canton to replenish her coal, and to have some repairs warried

out in her engine room. These latter detained her here until now.

5. On the 2nd August the C.S.P reported that it was conclusively

established that the Kahomedan Jemadar of police could not have

been at the Gurdwara at 5 p.m. on the 30thJuly as he reported him-

self shortly before that time to a European Sergeant at the

police station at Yaumatı in connection with a police case.

It was also established that the gaol guard was on duty at

the gaol up to 4.45 p.m. and could not therfore have been at the

Gurdwara as alleged by the informant,

A close examination of the latter alsos revealed the fact

that he had not seen and heard what he alleged while inside the

building out through a window from outside of it and it was fur-

ther discovered that from the position he stated he had occupied

he could not have seen into the room he said the conspirators

had occupied.

6. On the 12th August I questioned the President of the Temple

Committee, who was alleged to have been at the mestig ·

the schoolmaster in charge of the Government Indian schoolat

Wantsai. He bears a good character and has assisted the
